Top Presentation Ideas: Use Your Creativity | Self Improvement ...

It?s the first and most important thing for a presenter to make his presentations engaging and catchy to hold the audience until its end. Presentations are used as a strategic measure to explain the goal of whole discourse in a simpler way which is simply followed by your audience. You need to adopt some creative presentation ideas to make it more attractive and engaging to the listeners. Go to AboutTopics.com and find more than 10 000 presentation topics for various types of assignments.

And here are certain creative ideas for effective presentations:

Use of proper visual presentation

Rather than boring and dry text slides you can adopt visual presentation which will keep the audience engaged with you and your presentation. It may include photoes graphics, images, objects etc. Which can explain your target in a fast method to the potential receivers. With visual presentation your own character and style also counts much in making a presentation effective.

Setting the stage

Before starting your presentation you need to set the scene as an actor to make it more influential. You need to gradually tell the listeners about you, your topic and ultimate goal to let them understand the entire scene easily with a positive mind set. They will make up their mind as they may stay for the whole session or leave after few moments.

Using the listeners as collaborator

You can make the listeners rely on what you are saying to them if you think of them as your collaborator and communicate with them in the language and style they understand better. Get them involved in your presentation by asking them some easy questions regarding the subject you are discussing with them. The whole process should proceed in a light environment thru humor and the fluctuations in your voice, which will help in making it successful.

Do not stretch the subject

Always attempt to be to the point instead of beating the bush here and there while giving a successful presentation as everyone sitting in front of you. Tell the audience at correct time if your presentation is going to take a little bit longer time so they may not become impatient. The listeners will surely cooperate you if you may inform them in time.

Final touch

You need to finish the presentation with thanks to the listeners, as a case of etiquette, for making your presentation successful due to their cooperation. You need to ask them to follow your info to achieve the goal you have debated.

Therefore, the creative presentation ideas discussed above can help to a great extent in making your presentation successful.

Fitness in the Workplace

Many companies are taking great efforts to ensure that they foster health and fitness in the workplace. Some are thinking of new and innovative ways to support employee exercise and overall well-being. Sitting at your desk for eight hours a day isn't exactly the best for your health.

A recent study by the University of South Carolina looked at the effects of sitting all day. Those who sat all day were much more likely to die of heart disease. NPR wrote a great article on the study.

Epidemiologist Steven Blair, a professor of public health at the University of South Carolina, has spent 40 years investigating physical activity and health.

"Let's say you do 30 minutes of walking five days a week (as recommended by federal health officials), and let's say you sleep for eight hours," Blair says. "Well, that still leaves 15.5 hours" in the day.

So if we know all of this about the risk factors of sitting all day and the health benefits of exercise, what is being done? Many businesses are taking health and fitness to work. This week we interviewed Gus Isacson, Executive Director of the Central Lakeview Merchants Association. He is taking health and fitness into the workplace by conducting board meetings on the run. That's right, board meetings on the run!

Gus meets with the board President weekly, and they go for a run. When I asked him why they started doing this, he explained that he was tired of the President talking about how she never gets to exercise. They started running and are already up to running at least 3 miles a meeting. The meetings last about an hour, consisting of run-walk periods, and are a great way to fit in daily exercise. Gus also meets with the President of their PR agency for weekly runs. Their PR agent, Kim Eberl says, "I love the idea of a run meeting. Not only is it a good workout, but it brings client-agency closer as we share our hobby together. I hope run meetings replace happy hours."

The co-founder of WalkJogRun, Adam Howitt went on a run meeting with SweatVac's sales manager, Steve Kindred. Running is something they both have in common, and throughout the run they discussed potential SweatVac products we could buy for WalkJogRun. In the end, we ended up purchasing some great race hats for WalkJogRun fans.

There are many other companies working to support fitness in the workplace as well. Lindsey Carnett, CEO of Marketing Maven Public Relations, signed her employees up to meet with a personal trainer twice a week. An account executive within the firm wanted to start a company challenge. Elizabeth Maxim, account executive at Marketing Maven PR explains, "We all have a fitness goal to reach by June, and if any one of us doesn't reach the goal by June, we have to push our trainer's truck around the parking lot with other people in the truck! [My coworker] and I are going to run a half-marathon in June. Having this new challenge is a fun way for all of us to put some more excitement in our workouts!"

Janet Oberholtzer, one of our past guests on the TalkJogRun show, says, "My job as a writer and a speaker requires me to sit more hours of the day than what I would like." She purchased a LifeSpan treadmill desk to help with the long hours of sitting required with her job. This helps her get moving, while still getting her work done!

Some companies are taking fitness in the workplace quite literally. Ari Kresch, CEO of 1-800-LAW-FIRM had a track built in their office headquarters in Southfield, Michigan. Ari's goal is to conduct meetings around the track and to encourage health and wellness in the firm with an in-house fitness center. The track was only recently installed, and already is used by their over 40 staff members.

Pioneering Local News Website Purchased By San Francisco PR ...

New SF Sentinel "Pro-Gay, Pro-Business"; PR Ownership Not Clear

pat.murphy.jpg

Political and media junkies will with varying levels of fondness* recall the San Francisco Sentinel. First an LGBT weekly and then a Tenderloin neighborhood paper, the Sentinel was in its latest iteration one of the city's very first online-only newspapers, and was known as much for dapper editor-and-publisher Pat Murphy's spats-and-cane presence about City Hall and town as it was for its often controversial editorial slants (pro-business, anti-Chris Daly, possibly a pay-to-play political committee, and once accused of accepting money from Chevron in exchange for favorable articles.

Founding editor of local city blog SFist, Jackson West, recalls that back in the mid 00's, The Sentinel was "considered worthy of gossip, sometimes scurrilously so, by his peers in and around City Hall. And in a business where any attention is good attention, it all counts."

But things of late have been quiet over at www.sanfranciscosentinel.com. Illness laid Murphy low a few years back, leading him to pass the reins to his fine arts correspondent, and to finally sell off the publication last month to a public relations firm.

Phil Siegel, of MediaWorks SF, purchased the rights to the Sentinel in February for an undisclosed sum, he told the Appeal in a recent telephone interview. Why buy a new site that some may call a dormant political blog?

"It has a loyal readership, and hasn't been used to its maximum extent over the past year," said Siegel, noting that it went about six months without regular publishing.

Under Siegel, a PR professional for 30 years with clients ranging from the AIDS Quilt to San Francisco International Airport, the Sentinel "will continue to be a pro-gay, pro-business publication" with a special focus on the arts.

"It won't be much on the hard news side," said Siegel, who noted that press releases from Mayor Ed Lee as well as the America's Cup Event Authority and SF Chamber of Commerce will likely find their way to the site, along with news of museum exhibits, society events, and theater openings. Such news is often overlooked by local media, Siegel said, so the Sentinel would be a natural home for such otherwise-lost news releases.

The plan is to post about once a day in the beginning, and "feel our way around from there," Siegel said. "But entertainment-oriented is how [the Sentinel] has been, and that's how it's going to stay," Siegel said.

Efforts to contact Murphy -- who of late has changed his cell phone number and locked down his Facebook account -- were not successful.

Few would argue that San Francisco is exactly media-rich, so another voice can't be a bad thing. Or can it?

"It is ethically dubious for a PR firm to own a news source without a clear general statement to the world, 'This is what we're doing, and why we're doing it,'" said J. Michael Robertson, a journalism professor at the University of San Francisco, where he teaches an ethics class.

For example, whenever NBC reported on issues pertaining to then-parent company General Electric, a program would contain a disclaimer. "The key would be transparency," Robertson said.

There's not yet a clear mission statement on the Sentinel's homepage, nor is there an About page that lists its current owner.

Though to his credit, Siegel was more than forthcoming about his involvment with the Sentinel. "I've been in the PR business for 30-plus years and I understand what's news and what's not news," he said.

"Does it blur the line too much? Well, I think the line has been moving for a while."

This is true, and could even be part of a trend, Robertson muses. "You do need new, creative ways of sourcing the news," he said. "You just need to do it in a way that your credibility isn't questioned."

Which, for advertising nonprofits and museum openings, shouldn't be that hard. So welcome back, Sentinel.

*NOTE: Your correspondent contributed photos to the old Sentinel off-and-on for a number of years, and still considers Murphy a friend. Call us, Pat!

Planning rules 'should unite all'

Greg Clark: "It's very hard for people to engage with the planning system"

Business and conservationists should be able to "unite behind" revised planning rules for England, say ministers.

The guidelines, which have been amended after arguments about their effect on the countryside, include encouraging development on brownfield sites.

They say a "presumption in favour of sustainable development" should be a key theme in planning decisions.

Conservation groups welcomed some of the changes but said they would wait to see how they worked in practice.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles told the BBC ministers had listened to concerns and had "strengthened" proposals "around the basic principles of sustainable development" - making a good case for the economy, the environment and social policy.

'Golden thread'

He added: "I think this is something that, whether you are in business or whether you are in a green group, you should be able to get behind."

Far from giving us certainty, there is likely to be delay as developments are held up by appeals and by the courts having to rule on a new and untested approach?

End Quote Hilary Benn Labour

Draft proposals, published last year, were opposed by groups including the National Trust, Campaign to Protect Rural England and Friends of the Earth, amid criticism that they amounted to a "developers' charter".

The new framework includes specific references to encouraging development on brownfield sites - a phrase that had been missing from the draft version - to "offer reassurance".

It also offers "five guiding principles" of sustainable development, listed as: living within the planet's means; ensuring a strong, healthy and just society; achieving a sustainable economy; promoting good governance; and using sound science responsibly.

The framework says the presumption towards sustainable development should be "seen as a golden thread running through both plan-making and decision-taking".

But the government said policies such as those protecting the Green Belt, sites of special scientific interest, national parks and other areas could not "be overridden by the presumption".

'Sorely needed'

The framework also allowed councils to protect back gardens, while ensuring that "playing fields continued to benefit from the same protection that they do currently", planning minister Greg Clark said.

The government says planning reform is "sorely needed" as regulations have become too complex and are holding back economic growth. The new framework condenses 1,300 pages to fewer than 100.

The revised national planning policy framework will guide councils in both drawing up their "local plans", which set out their development policies. Planning inspectors must take it into account when judging applications.

Councils without an existing local plan will start to use it immediately. Those which have a plan already will have a year to bring it into line with the framework.

For Labour, shadow communities secretary Hilary Benn welcomed a "U-turn on playing fields and open spaces" but said there should be a national, not local, "brownfield-first" policy.

'Uncertainty'

He said the planning system should produce homes and jobs, as well as protecting green spaces, but the new plans "may end up doing neither".

"Far from giving us certainty, there is likely to be delay as developments are held up by appeals and by the courts having to rule on a new and untested approach," Mr Benn said, adding that this would lead to "uncertainty and chaos".

John Cridland, director-general of the CBI business group, said the government had "kept its nerve" in retaining the presumption in favour of sustainable development, which amounted "not growth at any cost but, equally, not a plan to oppose growth".

Neil Sinden, of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, said that, "on the face of it, it looks as though the government has listened and responded to the huge public concern that was expressed". But he said the detail must be right to ensure that it could be used by local authorities to defend "the right kind of development in the right place at public inquiries".

National Trust director-general Dame Fiona Reynolds said changes to the framework would "improve the document and give it a better tone and balance", but added she would "watch to see how it works in practice".

Need 3 or 4 RPers for Dragon Roleplay.

I need a few other RPers for my roleplay, Marked. I require one or two paragraphs per post; I'm not very picky. I do require decent grammar. Not perfect. Decent.

Plot:

Every twenty years or so, a dragon egg of each breed is found that has an odd, black splotch covering a about half of its shell. This black mark is dull and ugly; however, the parents of the egg are both saddened and pleased by this abnormality. Saddened because they know the hatchling will not be theirs to raise, and pleased because they know that this egg, this offspring of theirs, has been honored.

Honored, for it is one of The Marked. One of those few, few dragons that will become bonded with a twolegs. They are delivered quickly to the cave of the Great Dragon, deep in the heart of the Chirang woods. Here they are kept, though, unlike ordinary eggs, they will not hatch until all eight of The Marked eggs have been assembled, and the twolegs which are to be their bondeds have all realized their part in this hatching and come to take part.

Of course, these bondeds might have had different plans for their life. Chances are, none of them ever dreamed of being a dragon's bonded, and few of them are overjoyed when a large, black splotch begins to form and cover half their face. But like it or not, they are one of the Marked, and, if they do not travel to the cave of the Great Dragon, will be found and carried there by force. For if not all the Marked twolegs assemble, the eggs will never hatch.

The twolegs have come, the hatching ritual will take place within the week. For better or for worse, the twolegs will become bonded, and face all the trials the title involves.

Not the least of which is getting used to this new life.

~~~~~~
There are several playable races and types of dragons, though most positions have been filled already. I only have one humanoid position left (a Werewolf), but several dragon positions have yet to be filled. Please click the link for more information and leave a message in OOC or PM me if interested: roleplay/marked-for-better-or-for-worse/#ooc
Thanks!
